Volumes
Mining
and resource companies require measurement of the volumes of their
product stockpiles for quality control and stock audit purposes. In
some instances, such as when measuring large and/or numerous pits or
stockpiles, ground survey methods are not feasible. In other
circumstances, such as at steep or unstable faces, or with continuous
feed cone stockpiles, safety risks prevent ground survey.
Qasco
offers both ground and photogrammetric techniques for volumes work. For
large projects, photogrammetric volumetric calculations produce time
and cost savings to the client, with no safety concerns.
Qasco
uses a combination of commercially available and proprietary software
to calculate volumes of stockpiles. In situations where the base is
obscured, we often make base observations from earlier imagery.
Clients
are provided a Volumes Report containing information including time and
date of photography, volumes matched with type of material, and
comments (such as shadows obscuring vision, or obstructions by plant or
machinery) regarding the accuracy of calculations.
In
addition to volume pit and stockpile calculations and reports, we also
provide orthophotos of
sites through our digital
imaging department.
Topographic
Mapping
Modern
topographic maps are produced by using the DTM data to generate
contours, which are then cartographically enhanced with nomenclature,
grid and title block data. Similarly, an image map is produced by
replacing the detail layer of the photogrammetry with the ortho image.
An
example of a topographic map for a quarry site is available in the orthophoto section of our website.
