Engineering
surveys are conducted to obtain data essential for planning,
estimating, locating and layout for the various phases of projects. The
objectives of engineering surveys include obtaining preliminary data
required for selecting suitable routes and sites and for preparing
structural designs, establishing a system of reference points, and
marking lines, grades and principal points.
Qasco
provides several specialist survey types that fall under the general
category of engineering surveys. These include:
>
Construction Control & Set-Out
We
can provide expertise to any construction site including
infrastructure, civil and building projects. Our surveyors transfer
information from digital plans to site locations, and we coordinate
activities to ensure that all parts of a project come together as
planned.
Recent
projects that Qasco has been involved with include: Brisbane
International Airport Expansion (ITBX), Robina Stadium (Skilled Park)
and PA & Wesley Hospitals
>
Stockpiles and Volumes
Qasco
can provide volumes from either ground or aerial survey using either
our survey or photogrammetric teams. Examples of projects requiring
volume surveys include stockpile materials at landfills and quarries
and progresive site volumes during large construction projects.
Depending on the size, location and timing of the project and existing
data, Qasco can advise on the most cost effective and safe method to
meet project requirements.
For
more information on volumes calculated using photogrammetry, visit
Earthworks Volumes.
>
Aeronautical Surveys
Aeronautical
surveys are required to locate obstacles that encroach into an
airport's operating limits, and they are also used to plan airport
expansions and redevelopments. These types of surveys can be conducted
using aerial mapping and/or ground survey. Qasco has customised
software to efficiently undertake aeronautical surveys.
These
surveys have been completed at airfields including Brisbane, Darwin,
Amberley, Pearce, Oakey, Gin Gin and Coolangatta/Gold Coast.
>
Detail Surveys
Detail
surveys can be performed in situations where aerial mapping is not
suitable, such as heavily forested areas where the ground level is
obscured by foliage. Detail surveys can pick up ground and water
heights, underground services and all features, both 3D and 2D, such as
retaining walls, fences, roads and services.
>
International Certification of Athletics Facilities
Qasco
was involved in the set-out and 'as built' surveys of the University of
Queensland (UQ) and the Sunshine Coast athletics facilities and
completed survey work at Ballymore Rugby Union Club and ANZ athletics
facilities. Upon completion of the UQ facility, Qasco was chosen to
certify that it was built in accordance with the International Amateur
Athletics Federation (IAAF) rules. A certificate was prepared and
presented to the IAAF.
Any
athlete who breaks a world record at this facility is required to have
Qasco certify that the facility is to IAAF standards.
