Surveying > Topographic Surveys

The purpose of a topographic survey is to gather data about the natural and man-made features of the land, as well as its elevations. This usually consists of establishing horizontal and vertical control, locating features that may be required for the purpose of the survey, formatting data to meet design criteria, and producing topographic maps.

Qasco can provide aerial mapping and ground surveying to complete all topographical surveys. The methods used can be tailored to match the size and requirements of the project.

We have considerable expertise in route surveys, which refer to surveys ncessary for the location and construction of lines of transportation, communication and services that continue across country for some distance, such as highways, railroads, pipelines and power lines. Generally, the preliminary survey for this work takes the form of a topographic survey. In the final stage, the work may consist of determining elevations along and across the centre line for plotting profile and cross sections, computing volumes of earthworks, providing surface data for machine control, determining drainage areas, and laying out structures such as bridges and culverts.

Recent infrastructure projects that we have worked on include the Beerburrum-Landsborough railroad upgrade, the Southeast Queensland Water Grid Pipelines and a conveyor belt at Nhulunbuy, part of a major upgrade to Alcan Gove Bauxite Mine and Alumina Refinery.
